Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
